Hemma is the nickname turned moniker of contemporary performance artist Hannah Hebl.
With training in performance from Exeter, SFAI, UW-Eau Claire, and L'ecole de danse contemporaine in Montreal, Hebl returned to Minneapolis is 2016 to pursue a songwriting and recording career. She writes original songs that float melodies characterized by Hymnals and American Country music, while sustaining a penchant for modernity in her use of a beat machine and synthesized sounds. Unbeknownst to Hannah, her lifelong nickname in fact is Swedish for 'at the home of one's parents'. She practices this craft with deep respect for the authenticity of the homespun song, hearing songs swirling while on walks by the many water features of her midwest home and the homes she's made on both coasts in her life. Having grown up in a family of singers, with whom she recorded 8 albums by the age of 15, Hemma is at home in the studio, on stage, on tour, and in song. Raised in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, she now resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
